ARE YOU LOOKING AT ADOPTING A SCHOOL-WIDE APPROACH TO GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION?

WE HAVE THE KNOW-HOW YOU NEED

COUNCIL FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

Council for GCED.gif

The Council for Global Citizenship Education (Council for GCED) is a consortium of progressive and visionary institutions/organizations represented by the heads of schools/institutions, educators and practitioners who contribute to fostering and advancing active and engaged global citizenship education. Ashok Pandey is the Chairperson of the Council for GCED.

The Council for GCED is a membership-based initiative of the Global Citizenship Foundation and is a common platform for collaboration and organizational learning towards tackling complex education challenges and sharing best practices in the implementation of Global Citizenship Education in the formal education system.

The Council for GCED believes that an integrated, school-wide approach to educating children as global citizens is a key to unlocking their true potential. The Council for GCED empowers educators to nurture global citizenship and to wholly discover their potential as a catalyst in shaping critical global competencies—skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values—towards preparing our next generation to be successful in a complex and increasingly interconnected world. The Council for GCED achieves this through its flagship initiatives — GCED Teacher Fellowship, the GCED Innovative Schools' Toolkit and the GCED Innovative Schools Initiative.

The Council focuses on shaping and supporting the delivery of Global Citizenship Foundation’s educational work. The Council's initiatives, interventions, and support in schools are aimed at empowering school leaders and educators in creating a lasting impact on students’ growth and learning.

The Council for GCED, collectively, is responsible for shaping, implementing, and advancing age-appropriate, contextual and region-specific Global Citizenship Education Curriculum and an environment conducive to shaping global citizens and leaders of today and tomorrow.

COUNCIL FOR GCED ASSISTS YOU IN REALIZING YOUR SCHOOL'S VISION AND MISSION OF SHAPING GLOBAL CITIZENS AND LEADERS OF TODAY AND TOMORROW.

WHAT IS GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION?

Global citizenship education is a transformative, lifelong pursuit that involves both curricular learning and practical experience to shape a mindset to care for humanity and the planet, and to undertake responsible actions when and where necessary.

  • Explore questions about democracy, justice, inequality, governance, and organization;

ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN FULFILLING  UNITED NATION'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 4

The concept of global citizenship is embedded in the Sustainable Development Goals through SDG 4: Ensuring Inclusive and Quality Education for All and Promote Life Long Learning, which includes global citizenship as one of its targets.

By 2030, the international community has agreed to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including global citizenship.

Educational Institutions have a responsibility to promote global citizenship by teaching their students that they are members of a large global community and can use their skills and education to contribute to that community.
