250+ COUNCIL FOR GCED MEMBER EDUCATORS

COUNCIL FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

The Council for Global Citizenship Education (CGCED) comprises of heads of schools, educators and practitioners representing institutions/organizations who contribute to the Foundation's education programs and decision-making.

The Council focuses on helping in shaping and supporting the delivery of GCF’s educational work, rather than legal and administrative tasks taken up by the Executive Board. The Council normally convenes once annually.

The Council for GCED is responsible for shaping, implementing, and advancing age-appropriate, contextual and region-specific Global Citizenship Education Curriculum.

The Council for GCED is a common platform for collaboration and organizational learning towards tackling complex education challenges and sharing best practices in the implementation of Global Citizenship Education in the classrooms.

ROLE OF THE COUNCIL

  • To Represent members within GCF’s decision-making structure through advising Executive Board on educational and membership issues, as well as contributing to the strategic plan.

  • To Initiate education projects and events as the Council and staff deem appropriate.

  • To take a lead on the content of the GCED journal and the annual conference.

  • To provide a forum through which practitioners can support GCF staff in the development of GCF’s strategy and programs

ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN FULFILLING  UNITED NATION'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 4

The concept of global citizenship is embedded in the Sustainable Development Goals though SDG 4: Ensuring Inclusive and Quality Education for All and Promote Life Long Learning, which includes global citizenship as one of its targets.

By 2030, the international community has agreed to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including global citizenship.

Educational Institutions have a responsibility to promote global citizenship by teaching their students that they are members of a large global community and can use their skills and education to contribute to that community.
